All I want is to graduate. To get a simple bachelor's degree. I have been diligent in making sure I get signed up for the right classes so that I would be able to graduate AND have spring quarter off, free to work and train. I have followed the yellow sheet of required courses from the Department of Physical Education, Health, and Recreation like the bible. I have planned out my year in advance knowing what I will be taking and when. I went to register today and that all changed.
I now have to go to school in the spring. This may not seem like a big deal except I was hoping to have the spring free to train for my upcoming Ironman and to work mainly in the field that I'm going into. To actually be free to get a real full-time job doing something that doesn't involve being treated like less than a human being (my current job) and doing something that I love to do....or at least like to do. I'd take either one at this point. The other completely ridiculous part about going to school in the spring is that I have to drive an hour and a half every day to take....are you ready?.....ONE CLASS! (I hear that putting words in all caps makes it sound like you're yelling. I like that.) On the yellow bible sheet it says it's offered in the winter. For the past two years I've been planning on taking it this winter. All of the sudden when I go to register for it, it is no longer available in the winter. It's only available in the spring now....the same spring that I wanted to be working and training in.
Let me clarify here.
1. Drive an hour and a half three days a week to school.
2. Take one hour of class.
3. The class is group exercise instruction. I will be doing group exercise, something that I do on a weekly basis 2.5 minutes from my house, I just don't get credit for it. I could teach it. That's the whole point of this class. Learning to teach it. I could.
It does not make sense to me to cut up the middle of my day, three times a week, to take a group exercise class that I could take 2.5 minutes from my house. I can't get a regular job when my daughter would be in school because getting a regular job would require that I don't have the middle of my day cut out for three hours, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to take a group exercise class in another city. (I live in a different city than my school, just to make it more dramatic here). Amazing. I think I will send the registrar a thank you card. I can't wait to be done. Maybe I will challenge the class. Wish me luck.
On a positive note, I think I'm going to take Lifeguarding next quarter.
I can't wait for tomorrow. I get a break from thinking about this stuff. Less than 24 hours.... I'm waiting...again.
