The other night when BoySmile was on call all night, the two of us girls had a movie night. In the 6-year-old sense of course which means we were in bed promptly at 7:30. The movie option of the evening from the library was none other than Little Manhattan.
It was a cute love story about an 11-year-old girl named Rosemary and a 10-year-old boy named Gabe.
Recently, any little girl character in a movie immediately becomes what our child wants to be called. For example: We watched the Grinch over Christmas break and she informed us that she wanted to be called "Cindy Lou." Then we went to the Christmas program at the local baptist church and she decided that she wanted to be called "Mary Cindy Lou" because of Jesus' mother Mary.
As true pattern as shown, after this movie ended, she loved the name Rosemary.
The next day she came home from school very excited to hand me a piece of paper that she had done in Centers (AKA structured free-time) that day. The paper said, "Ruzmere." I got a quizzical look on my face trying to figure out what it said and finally asked, "What does this say?"
"Rosemary!" was the answer.
I died laughing, probably too hard as it might have caused some embarrassment.
We taught her how to correctly spell Rosemary, had a good laugh, and I will be keeping this paper for a little while to make me smile.
I love it when she tries. I love it when she isn't afraid to try something even if it's wrong. Everything is always worth trying.

I was told that I look like I belong in Who-ville....
I don't think that statement was meant as a compliment. Wa wa...
That is so adorable. That is how black people spell names. Exactly how it sounds. Very cute.
